Running in the 200 meters in the Poland Diamond meet, Alexander (Alexis) Ogando finished second with a personal best of 19.86, losing to Letsile Tebogo of Botswana who clocked 19.83. Tebogo was the gold medal winner in the Paris Olympics. Ogando was a disappointing fifth in those Olympics.
In the Paris Diamond League, shortly before the Olympic Games, Ogando had done the 200 m in 19.98 to win that Paris Olympic Games’ preparatory event.
Ogando’s time in Silesia, Poland was his personal best and also a national record.
The third place in the Silesia, Poland meet went to Kenneth Bednarek of the United States with 20.0. Bednarek had won the silver medal in the Paris Olympics. Fourth went to Erriyon Knighton of the United States with 20.07.
Ogando’s coach is Felix Sanchez, two-time Olympic gold medal winner in the 400m hurdles (Athens 2004 and London 2012)...
