Princess Leonor of Spain, the heir to the Spanish throne, is set to visit the Dominican Republic as part of her naval training next year. The future queen will be embarking on a six-month voyage aboard the Spanish Navy’s training ship, the Juan Sebastián de Elcano, starting in January 2025. Her father, today King Felipe VI of Spain, also visited the Dominican on the same training ship.
The princess, who is currently undergoing training as a naval cadet, will be one of 76 cadets on board the ship as it sails to various destinations in the Americas. The voyage is scheduled to begin on 11 January 2025, from Cádiz, Spain.
The Juan Sebastián de Elcano is expected to arrive in Santo Domingo between 19 and 24 May 2025. This leg of the journey will follow visits to Cartagena de Indias and Santa Marta in Colombia.
