Reporters from Diario Libre traveled to the border with Haiti to see for themselves the “fence” that gets so much international attention. One stretch of the border is about the so-called Carretera Internacional that separates both countries. The road was once used by adventure travelers, but after a famous Dominican doctor was assaulted by Haitians when traveling with a group, it has become off limits for non-essential travelers.

The land border with Haiti is about 391 km, of which there are gate points and fence constructed in about 55 km of the stretch.

Viewed from the skies, the border is defined by the deforestation on the Haitian side and the green on the Dominican side.
