The capital city red team, the Leones del Escogido secured the trophy of the 2024/25 Dominican Winter Professional Baseball Championship by defeating the Tigres del Licey in a thrilling seven-game series. For the Escogido it was their 17th championship and their first after a drought of nine years.

Promptly, President Luis Abinader congratulated the Escogido for winning the 71st Dominican Baseball League (Lidom) championship. Now the Escogido wants to share their win with their fans.

The Escogido had not won a championship since 2016. So many people now have come forth saying they are Escogidistas.

The Leones del Escogido will celebrate their championship with a parade today at 2pm starting from Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium.
