The National Wage Committee will be meeting this 4 February 2025 to begin discussions for a potential wage increase for workers. Employee representatives are pushing for a 30% raise in the non-sectorized category. The National Wage Committee brings together representatives from workers, employers and government and is entrusted with deciding on minimum wages, but in the past, agreements have come forward increasing all wages.
Employee unions argue that even the highest minimum wage falls significantly short of the basic needs basket, despite acknowledging President Abinader’s proposal. They are advocating for sector-specific discussions, including free zones and tourism, and propose a national wage pact as suggested by President Luis Abinader and Labor Minister Luis Miguel De Camps.
