Agents of the Ground Traffic and Transportation Safety Agency (Digesett) are on the lookout for vehicles on streets and avenues that do not show having paid their “circulation tax” otherwise known as the “marbete” or sticker. These items went on sale in October 2024, and the final day to acquire them without a late fee was last 31 January.

According to reports in the newspapers, at the deadline 171,000 vehicles had yet to comply with the requirement.

The Digesett reported that in the first 24 hours, the cops had apprehended 280 vehicles that lacked the proper sticker and were seized. These vehicles included both cars, pickups and heavy trucks. The circulation tax can be paid at any office of the Tax Agency (DGII). The fees are RD$3000 for vehicles up to five years old and RD$1500 for older vehicles, but now there is a late fee, and possibly a fine.
