A 5.4 magnitude earthquake was felt in the Dominican Republic at 1:49am. The epicenter of the shake was at 19 kms deep and 90 km NNE of Punta Cana in the Atlantic Ocean waters off the eastern coast. The shake was felt mostly in northern Samana and the eastern provinces, including the Punta Cana resorts areas.
Geologist Osiris de Leon commented the quake was felt also in the central Cibao region. The earthquake was strong enough to be also felt in southcentral Santo Domingo.
