Presidents Luis Abinader and Yamandú Orsi / El Caribe

President Luis Abinader returned on Sunday, 2 March 2025 after traveling to Uruguay on Friday, 28 February 2025 to attend the inauguration of Yamandú Orsi and Carolina Cosse, as President and Vice President of Uruguay.

Abinader had traveled accompanied by Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez and other government officials. According to a statement from the Presidency, Abinader’s trip underscored the importance the Dominican Republic places on strengthening diplomatic relations with Uruguay and celebrating democratic transitions in the region.

As reported, Abinader had a bilateral meeting with the new Uruguayan president. As reported, the meeting was cordial and, apparently, informal, since President Abinader was tieless as he sat down with President-elect Orsi.
