New York City Mayor Eric Adams arrived to Santo Domingo on Sunday, 13 April for a two-day visit to stand in solidarity with the Dominican community. New York City is regarded as the second largest city in number of Dominicans, with around 700,000 residents, or 8% of the population.
“As the mayor of the city with the largest Dominican population outside of the Dominican Republic, Mayor Adams is making the trip to express heartfelt condolences and support to the families who are grieving, including many New Yorkers and their loved ones who have been directly affected by this tragedy,” the mayor’s office’s advisory announcing the trip read.
