On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, 13 June 2025, Public Health Minister Víctor Atallah announced he is working so that blood and its derivatives be covered in the country’s social security system. He stressed that blood should be considered a right, not a commodity, and should be freely accessible.

“We are going to do everything possible so that this precious liquid be covered by our social security system,” Atallah stated, highlighting the Ministry of Health’s efforts to amend the Dominican Social Security System (SDSS) Law No. 87-01.

During the same event, held to commemorate World Blood Donor Day, the Ministry of Health and the National Hemocenter showcased considerable advancements in blood collection and distribution across the Dominican Republic. So far this year, over 5,000 blood components have been delivered, with nearly 3,000 pints collected in April and May 2025...
