The Chamber of Deputies has approved, in two consecutive sessions and with modifications, the organic bill that establishes the Ministry of Justice. The legislation now returns to the Senate for review of the amendments.
The bill aims to create and define the structure and responsibilities of the new ministry, that the government says will strengthen the country’s justice system.
According to one of its provisions, the Ministry of Justice will serve as the executive body responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and implementing powers delegated by the Constitution and laws to the Executive Branch. It will play a key role in supporting the judicial system both functionally and administratively, as well as in representing the State in legal matters.
