What is quite logically the nation’s biggest private sector single employer, much like Walmart in the United States, the Grupo Ramos has announced in Santiago de los Caballeros that it intends to expand its current 84 stores to more than 200 stores by 2030. Such entities as Sirena Market (former Pola), Multicentro La Sirena, Multiplaza and Aprezio are all part of the retail portfolio.
As explained by Ivan Mejia, the executive president of the company, the idea is to place one of their stores within 30 minutes of every Dominican living in a city. In the north of the DR, Grupo Ramos currently has 19 stores, with nine of these in Santiago de los Caballeros, the country’s second largest city.
