Contrary to claims made by the defense, 30-year old Jean Andrés Pumarol Fernández, accused of a violent attack on neighbors in the Naco sector of the National District, will not be housed in a psychiatric ward at the Anamuya prison in La Altagracia province, as reported in CDN. The General Penitentiary and Correctional Services Agency (DGSPC) has directly refuted assertions that the Anamuya facility possesses a specialized mental health unit. During the attack, a 70-year old woman was killed, and four other persons are injured, including his own father.

Richard Martínez, Pumarol’s lawyer, had stated his client was sent to Anamuya because, he alleged, it had a specialized unit for mentally ill patients.
