From January to August 2025 at least 48 women of a population of 11 million were murdered by their spouses or former spouses, according to data from the Ministry of Interior and Police. Of those, 36 deaths were categorized as intimate feminicides because of the direct ties between the victim and aggressor, as reported in Diario Libre. The data was shared during the Monday, 4 August 2025, meeting of the members of the follow up committee for the Citizen Security Plan, with the participation of Vice President Raquel Peña.

During the meeting, Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful said that her office, working closely with the Attorney General Office would implement a new nationwide initiative to combat feminicides.
