Over the weekend, the Ministry of Public Works announced the shutdown of the “floating” bridge that crosses the Ozama River to the south of Duarte Bridge. The poontoon bridge will remain closed until Wednesday, 13 August 2025.

The ministry said that the bridge was scheduled for ordinary maintenance. The maintenance is being carried out by the Dominican Naval Industry that has a long history of dealing with maritime structures.

Due to the importance of the bridge, the National Institute of Ground Transportation (Intrant), together with the General Traffic Safety Agency (Digesett), and the city government of East Santo Domingo are notifying people of the alternate routes for crossing the river.
