President Abinader has officially launched the construction of a modern passenger terminal at the Las Américas International Airport (SDQ – AILA), backed by a US$250 million investment. The addition of the three-level terminal will enable the airport to handle more aircraft, streamline passenger processes, and significantly enhance traveler comfort and convenience.

The investment will practically double the capacity of the airport that mainly serves the capital city.

The airport was first inaugurated in 1959 as the Punta Caucedo International Airport, and the airport was renamed Aeropuerto Internacional de las Americas in 1962 with a second terminal opening in 2008.

The new terminal will add 33,000 square meters of space and 10 new boarding gates, enabling the airport to serve an additional 4 million passengers annually.
