President Luis Abinader inaugurated a new road between Villa Elisa in Montecristi province and Punta Rucia in Puerto Plata province on Saturday, 6 September 2025. The new, 23.2 km road was said to cost taxpayers RD$1.224 billion. It gives easy access from Santiago to one of the most beautiful beaches on the north shore, La Ensenada.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Villa Elisa road was just a part of the president’s very active weekend where schools and a bridge in the town of Imbert, new Infotep classrooms and workshops in Puerto Plata, and an outdoor concert by the National Philharmonic Orchestra.
