Investigative reports carried out by Nuria Piera and Julissa Cespedes (CDN) have brought forward complaints of major corruption at the state health insurance plan, Senasa, when under former executive director Santiago Hazim. During his weekly press conference on Monday, 8 September 2025, President Luis Abinader confirmed the situation, explaining that it was the government that had requested an investigation in November 2024.

For months, there have been rumors, the state health plan was being decapitalized.

Hazim was replaced at Senasa on 17 August 2025 after a five-year term. He was replaced by Edward Guzmán Padilla.
