The Dominican Republic is on track to determine the definitive net reserves of rare earth elements by the end of 2026, a crucial step in understanding the true commercial value of the country’s deposits, Minister of Energy and Mines Joel Santos explained during an interview with El Caribe and CDN 37.

Santos revealed that the government has made progress in the rare earth exploration process in the last 12 months that typically takes three years.

The immediate goal is to declare gross resources by the end of next year, which means confirming or possibly increasing the initial observations. However, the more complex step—determining the net reserves—will take longer.

Rare earth elements comprise 17 different elements. Up to now, the reported figures refer to a gross volume that includes other minerals.
