Merchants, restaurants, and artisans are welcoming the month of November since it represents the beginning of the “season” of cruise ship arrivals at Amber Cove and Taino Bay cruise ship terminals. Amber Cove mainly caters to Carnival Cruise ships and is located in Maimon, about 15 minutes west of Puerto Plata city. Taino Bay is located in the historic district of Puerto Plata.

Just this month, 49 ships are expected to berth at these two tourist ports. So far this year, 1.62 million tourists have arrived in Puerto Plata, about 81% of all cruise line arrivals. Last year, nearly 2.2 million persons arrived at the two ports in Puerto Plata, fully 80% of the sea-borne tourists in the Dominican Republic.
