Weather conditions are expected to improve this week after the passing of Tropical Storm Melissa and the follow-up tropical wave and trough that brought more intense rains. The Center for Emergency Operations (COE) says that San Jose de Ocoa and Barahona continue under emergency conditions, with school classes yet to resume because of the continuing rains and flooding threat and need for repairs.
The official report from the Weather Institute (Indomet) is for the trough system to continue to trigger rain, but the system is gradually moving off the island.
As of the morning of 4 November 2025, only four provinces continue under a green weather alert. These are Monte Plata, Peravia, San Cristobal and Barahona for saturation of the ground.
