The head of the program that is developing and remodeling the Colonial city, architect Amin Abel Santos, told reporters that the process to refurbish, remodel, repair, and beautify the streets, museums, churches, chapels, and historical monuments in the Colonial City is well underway. The program would also improve many of the residences in the 500-year-old area of the National District that was the first permanent residence of European culture in the New World.

He noted that more than 150 private houses and another 20 properties have benefited from the program with remodeling and repairs. Amin Santos said the program was assigning five electric buses to the area. The buses would provide transportation for the hotels along the Malecon to the Colonial City.

Minister of Tourism David Collado has said that there would be no closed streets in the Colonial City during the Christmas holiday period.
