The BHD Bank announced the winners of its 2025 “Women Who Change the World Contest.” The top honor of the 10th edition of the awards went to Nellys Margarita Heredia Agramonte, a community activist who has dedicated all her life to the people of the southwest of the country. She is known for her leadership in establishing women’s associations, driving multisectoral change in gender equality, environmental stewardship and education.

The ceremony to honor the trailblazers was presided by Vice President Raquel Pena and took place at the Carlos Piantini Hall of the National Theater.

The two second-place awards celebrated diverse achievements:Arisleyda Beard de Burgos was recognized for her unwavering commitment to promoting art and culture in Puerto Plata.Dr. Dhamelisse Then Vanderhorst, director of the Dr. Hugo Mendoza Pediatric Hospital, was honored for her leadership, which has elevated the institution to the highest standards of quality and humanized care.
