The murder of Yennely Duarte in the village of Quitasueño was a horrific crime. The Department of Justice sent their big gun to prosecute the case, Toribio Antonio Gomez. The crime, committed in March of 2024, came to trial with the typical delays and courtroom incidents, but on 1 December 2025, the trial ended, and prosecutor Gomez had achieved yet another exemplary sentence: 30 years in prison for Ammy Hiraldo Peña.

This is considered to be yet another win for Gomez, and his past performance indicates he is very good at his job. It seems that if the Justice Department has a major case regarding rape, incest, assault that results in the death of the victim, homicide, or drugs, Gomez is going to be the prosecutor.

His successes in gaining convictions is, indeed, impressive. El Caribe newspaper publishes a list of ten convictions carrying sentences from five to thirty years in just 2025. If Gomez was a baseball player, he would appear to be an All Star. These are not easy...
