State prosecutors are presenting charges of negligence and involuntary murder of 11 year old Stephora Anne-Mircie Joseph, during a school outing to a ranch with swimming pool on 14 November 2025 against the school’s administrative director and three employees of the Colegio Da Vinci of Santiago. The private school is not charged in the case.

The case was postponed for the first hearing on Wednesday, 10 December 2025.

Media reports say that a video shared with the lawyers of the mother of the deceased reveal that there was not surveillance of the pool area. Making matters worse, the video shows how the 11-year old steps into deep water and calls for help but her cries were ignored by a school staff member and children in the area.

The drowning was only noticed when one of the children thought the girl was playing and touched her drowned body.
