President Luis Abinader has named Luis Valdez Veras the executive vice president of Seguros Reservas, the insurance arm of the government’s Banco de Reservas, the country’s largest state-owned financial institution. The appointment comes at a time the insurance company has been in the media after former Minister of Economy Juan Ariel Jimenez claimed he had documents that showed trouble in that entity.

Valdez Veras recently was removed from being the head of the Tax Agency (DGII). He led the tax agency from August 2020 until 6 January 2026, when he was succeeded by Pedro Porfirio Urrutia Sangiovanni.
