After two years of delays, the 2C extension of the Santo Domingo Metro is set to begin operations for the general public on 24 February 2026.
As the first metro line built under President Luis Abinader’s administration, the project broke ground in February 2022. The 7.3-kilometer stretch, which connects the María Montez station at Kilometer 9 of the Duarte Highway to the Los Alcarrizos municipality, was originally scheduled to open in February 2024.
The government has attributed the significant delays to a decentralized construction strategy, which involved dividing the project among more than 30 different contractors.
