Marking its 28th anniversary, the Metropolitan Bus Services Operator (OMSA) has unveiled a sweeping modernization plan for 2026, headlined by the launch of the country’s first electric bus corridor and the acquisition of hundreds of new vehicles to bolster public transit.
Onésimo González, executive vice president of OMSA, confirmed an expansion of service with the incorporation of 200 new electric units this spring.
In addition to the electric initiative, the agency is set to significantly scale its capacity. González confirmed 200 new 90-passenger electric buses will soon be added to the 27 de Febrero Avenue service. Furthermore, the current administration reported a savings of RD$524 million, which will be reinvested to purchase an additional 35 to 45 buses.
