The Center for Emergency Operations (COE) on 25 February 2026 announced three provinces are in Red Alert, meaning definite threat of flooding and damage, and those in vulnerable areas should evacuate.

The cold front system that has moved south from the freezing North America has resulted in intense rains that have caused major damages in Espaillat province on the northeast, between Maria Trinidad Sanchez and Puerto Plata. Traffic was paralyzed from Gaspar Hernandez to Sosua and from Sosua to Rio San Juan and Cabrera, Listin Diario reports.
