A persistent and unstable weather pattern is affecting the Caribbean, primarily driven by troughs that are bringing significant moisture and thunderstorms to the region.

The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) and the Center for Emergency Operations (COE) have announced that residents in the Dominican Republic can expect a week of rainstorms.

Indomet issued yellow alerts for several provinces, forecasting heavy rains and potential flooding for Greater Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Monte Plata, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Duarte, Samana, San Jose de Ocoa, Sanchez Ramirez and Maria Trinidad Sanchez.

The authorities have issued weather alerts to warn the population of the risk of urban flooding and sudden rises in rivers and streams for the southern, central and northeastern provinces.
