The General Migration Agency (DGM) has denied a public information request seeking to verify whether former Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero holds Dominican citizenship or any official residency status in the country. The request, filed on 11 February 2026, aimed to confirm the existence of administrative records without requesting sensitive personal data.

In its official refusal, the DGM argued that the requested information is private. The agency cited Article 44 of the Dominican Constitution, alongside Law 200-04 on Free Access to Public Information and Law 172-13 on Data Protection. According to the DGM, disclosing even the existence of an administrative file would violate the privacy rights of the individual in question.
