In the face of current events in the Middle East, where Iran threatens the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and where oil prices are dancing above US$100 a barrel, President Luis Abinader has called for wide-reaching meetings with government officials, unions, and business all together. Minister of the Presidency Jose Ignacio Paliza told reporters that business leaders and administration officials had exchanged ideas and proposals that would protect economic growth in the face of the realities of the Iran crisis. One of the results of these meetings was an increase in gasoline prices. More policies are expected to be put into practice, if the Iran crisis continues.
