A technical team from the National Office of Seismic Evaluation and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (Onesvie) has launched a comprehensive assessment of the Camú Bridge in Puerto Plata following its structural collapse. The team is conducting technical surveys to determine the exact causes of the failure, the magnitude of the damage, and the necessary intervention measures as part of the Dominican government’s emergency response.

The structure succumbed to intense rainfall recorded over the past few hours, which triggered river overflows and widespread flooding across several sectors of the province. The collapse has completely severed traffic on this alternate road that connects Puerto Plata with Santiago de los Caballeros, causing significant concern among local residents and authorities in the neighboring municipality of Gaspar Hernández.
