Greater Santo Domingo got a taste of tornado-like wind gusts on Monday afternoon, mostly hitting the southern part of the city. To the north, several regions were flooded with rivers damaging inner town connections with main roads. Reports are that the Camu and Veragua bridges over rivers in the north part of the country were impacted.
The message is clear. More solid constructions are needed because the heavy rains will continue to impact the country.
On Monday, 13 April 2026 in the afternoon, sudden yet short-lasting hurricane-style winds and rain grabbed everyone’s attention. On the Malecon, a section of the Malecon Center fell from the intense winds, as reported in Diario Libre. Trees were toppled in the Colonial City. Weather forecaster Heriberto Fabian explained in Diario Libre that the wind gusts come with convective systems and are of short duration.
