The Minister of Public Works Eduardo Estrella announced that the formal reception of proposals for the construction of the highly anticipated Autopista del Ambar will begin on 5 May 2026. The highway would cut across the Northern Mountain Range (Cordillera Septentrional) and would be equidistant to Puerto Plata city and Sosua and Cabarete beach destinations. The RD Vial Trust is convening the tender.

Speaking during the Corripio Communications Group’s Weekly Lunch, the official explained that the bidding process underwent several extensions to ensure broader corporate participation. “Several extensions were granted… with the intention that the more companies participate, the better,” the Minister stated.
