The Ministry of Public Works (MOPC), now under Minister Eduardo Estrella, says the renovation of Duarte Highway is on track for a 2027 completion. The renovation has included a complex system of overpasses and new tolls booths.

This multi-phase project, which spans from Santo Domingo to the Cibao region, also involves the elimination of over 150 illegal U-turns and the construction of safe-access ramps and elevated pedestrian crossings to reduce the high fatality rate historically associated with this route. The government is also working on the structural reinforcement of the aging bridge infrastructure that connects the northern provinces to the country’s main ports on the south side.
