President Luis Abinader inaugurated on 16 April 2026 the RD$3 billion Renacer plastic recycling plant in southeastern San Pedro de Macoris. The plant is described as the first facility in the Caribbean capable of producing food-grade recycled PET resin. This milestone supports the country’s circular economy goals and industrial modernization.

Located within the Zona Franca Quisqueya, the project is a collaboration between the Dominican company Diesco and the Honduran-based Invema Group. It is designed to meet the increasing global demand for sustainable packaging, particularly from multinational beverage corporations operating in the region.

Diesco, a prominent multi-sectoral conglomerate headquartered in Santo Domingo, manufactures packaging (Polyplas and Termopac) and beverages.
