The Dominican Republic and Haiti are working to reopen the airspace between both countries starting in May 2026. The opening specifically connects Dominican airports with the Cap Haitien International Airport to facilitate mobility and economic ties.
The Dominican Republic had closed its airspace with Haiti in March 2024. Only humanitarian flights were allowed. The Dominican Republic cited the high levels of insecurity in the neighboring nation.
The decision is part of a Joint Statement issued by Foreign Ministers of the Dominican Republic and Haiti, Roberto Alvarez and Raina Forbin.
