President Luis Abinader kicked off a series of ribbon-cutting ceremonies that included sports facilities and highways over the weekend. The first was the inauguration of the Malecon Deportivo in Santo Domingo, a 1.7 km-long RD$310 million investment designed for recreation along the western part of the George Washington Boulevard, the area known as the Malecon that skirts the Caribbean Sea. The President was accompanied by National District Mayor Carolina Mejia.

The President cited the need to maintain the facility because it had been built with “the people’s money” and therefore, it has to be well-kept. The Dominican leader spoke of the upcoming Paseo 30 de Mayo, another nearby sports and recreational facility that would be opened for use in the upcoming 25th Central American and Caribbean Games, scheduled for this summer.
