In a play merging historical memory with social justice, the drama “El Primer Voto de la Mujer Dominicana en 1942” (The First Vote of the Dominican Woman in 1942) will debut at Casa de Teatro on 15 May 2026. The play narrates the transcendental moment when Dominican women secured their fundamental right to vote, a milestone that marked the birth of their formal civic and national identity.

The firm step taken on 16 May 1942 enabled Dominican women to obtain their personal identification cards and their voting rights. The play tells the story of the 84 years it took women in the country to secure these rights.

The production is directed by Wendy Queliz, founder of Studio Teatro Wendy Queliz.
