The Dominican government officially inaugurated the “Open and Active School” (Escuela Abierta y Activa) program on 9 May 2026, a strategic move to transform public schools into community hubs. Under this initiative, public educational centers under the Ministry of Education will open their doors every Saturday to provide sports, cultural, and recreational programming specifically designed for local youth and adolescents.

The project is a core component of the “School as a Center for Development” strategy.
