Local and foreign tourists are rediscovering Santo Domingo’s Malecon, the 14-km Caribbean Sea-bordering road, with sports events and even weddings now taking place. The capital city government has been renovating sections of the Malecon, making it more attractive to visitors.

Coming up is the 5K Night Run on 23 May 2026. Scheduled to begin at 7:30pm, the event invites runners to navigate a course along the Caribbean Sea, taking advantage of the improved lighting and wide pedestrian paths that characterize the new Malecón Deportivo section. Registration for the event is currently open with a starting cost of RD$1,695.00, marking it as a key fixture in the city’s growing sports tourism calendar.
