The pro-mining Abinader administration is going forward with explorations for rare earth element mining in Pedernales province in the southwest.

The exploration of rare earth elements (REE) in the southwestern province of Pedernales is advancing rapidly, potentially positioning the Dominican Republic as a pivotal player in the global technology supply chain. During the first International Geopolitics Congress on 13 May 2026 held in Santo Domingo, Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza announced that comprehensive studies to determine the exact quantity and quality of these minerals are expected to conclude by the end of this year.
