During the Tuesday, 12 May 2026 press conference, Minister of Interior & Police Faride Raful announced new measures aimed at curbing mobile phone theft. In a strategic move to discourage and dismantle the illicit resale market, Minister Raful announced the launch of a new digital verification and certification service. The platform allows citizens to instantly validate whether a mobile device has been reported stolen before finalizing a purchase.

The announcement followed a meeting of the Citizenship Security Plan, chaired by Vice President Raquel Peña. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the National Police, the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) and private telecommunications providers.
