The Superior Administrative Court (TSA) has terminated the nearly seven-decade-old mining concession held by Falconbridge Dominicana (Falcondo), ruling that the company breached essential contractual obligations while operations at the Quisqueya I site that closed on 17 November 2023. The concession had changed hands several times before the operation was shut down.
The Second Chamber of the TSA ruled in favor of an action brought by the Fund for the Reform of State Enterprises (Fonper) on behalf of the Dominican state. The decision orders the cancellation of the concession contracts signed in 1956 and 1969 covering Quisqueya I, a 22,392-hectare deposit stretching across La Vega and Monseñor Nouel provinces.
