The Supreme Court of Justice rejected the recourse presented by his defense and maintained the 20 year jail sentence to Argenis Contreras to be served at Najayo Jail in San Cristobal. He was sentenced for the murder of state university UASD law professor Yuniol Ramirez. The case has been in court for around nine years since the professor went missing on 20 October 2017 after giving a class at the UASD.

A call to Argenis Contreras was the last registered on the cell phone of Ramirez. The body of the professor would be found in a gully in Manoguayabo in northern Santo Domingo with a bullet wound, tied with chains to a cement blocks.
