US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a telephone conversation on Saturday, 22 August 2026, with the new Dominican Minister of Foreign Relations, Víctor “Ito” Bisonó. The high-level diplomatic exchange occurred just days after Bisonó assumed his position at the Ministry of Foreign Relations (Mirex) on 17 August 2026. He replaced Roberto Alvarez who had been in the position since August 2020.
