Héctor Valdez Albizu / Central Bank
The recently re-confirmed governor of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic, Hector Valdez Albizu, announced that he expects Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) to reach US$5.3 billion in 2026. This comes on the heels of the announcement by the Latin American Bank of Foreign Trade (Bladex) of a billion dollar increase in their portfolio for the Dominican Republic.
Valdez Albizu told reporters that since FDI had reached US$3.27 billion in the first half of the year, it was feasible that the US$5.3 billion mark be achieved by the end of the year. Valdez echoed previous reports of free zone growth and increased exports, especially gold, that is enjoying a long streak of high market prices.
