According to data from Unesco’s Global Education Monitoring Report 2026, the Dominican Republic raised its upper secondary completion rate from 56% to 64% between 2015 and 2024. This eight-percentage-point gain marked the largest increase among four key educational metrics evaluated by the international agency over the past decade, Diario Libre reports.

The findings also highlight broad advances across early childhood, primary, and lower secondary education:

Early childhood participation: The proportion of children enrolled in structured educational programs in the year prior to entering primary school increased from 86% to 93%.

Primary school completion: The completion rate for primary education climbed from 90% to 96%.

Lower secondary completion: The completion rate for lower secondary school advanced from 83% to 89%.
