Nature will provide a big show for the Dominican Republic this coming Thursday, 27 August 2026, as a nearly complete lunar eclipse will be visible throughout the country.

As the earth’s shadow begins to cover the moon at about 9:23pm, the event will be able to be seen with the naked eye, and no special equipment is needed.

The eclipse will begin at around 10:30pm, when the earth’s shadow really begins to cover the moon. The greatest portion of the moon will be covered at 12:12am and the shadow effect is expected to end at 3:01am.

According to the National Aeronautical and Space Agency (NASA), the lunar eclipse only happens when there is a full moon, and the moon travels through the earth’s shadow.
